On Wednesday, August 12, the Emerging Leaders of Somerset County hosted an instructional and networking seminar entitled “Looking Good on the Green.” This seminar started with a presentation and discussion led by Kathy Hart Wood, who has been named one of the top teaching instructors in the nation; and was followed by networking over light appetizers and cocktails on the covered patio. The event was sponsored by Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club and Financial Resources Federal Credit Union.
The twenty attendees were mostly new or novice golfers. Although the rain prevented the group from heading out to the driving range, instruction focused on pointers about golf etiquette, terminology, grips, and why the red tee markers are called the “forward tee” instead of the “ladies’ tee.” Discussion also included the best way for new golfers to get started in the game, and why “scramble” tournaments are generally safer for those who haven’t played much.
“Even though I golf on a regular basis, it was great to get back to basics with some general pointers, and Kathy’s approach kept things entertaining,” said attendee Joe Wilson of the The Linx Group. The event also brought out several people who had not attended ELSC events before, including Matthew Moench of Drinker Biddle & Reath, who said that he was glad to have found the ELSC group and hopes to attend future networking events.
“The ELSC has been trying to line up a golf-centered event for some time now,” said ELSC Chairperson Kelly Gabel. “With the help of Fiddler’s Elbow and Financial Resources Federal Credit Union, tonight’s event turned out great, despite the rain and the fact that lots of people are away on vacation in August. Everyone seemed to have learned something and really enjoyed themselves.”
