On Thursday, November 19, the Emerging Leaders of Somerset County hosted their third annual holiday gala at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club. This event capped off the group’s “Lose Your Tie in ‘09” theme, and drew a crowd of approximately 80 attendees. Guests enjoyed fine food and drink, as well as the entertainment provided by the live DJ. The event was sponsored by Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club and Financial Resources Federal Credit Union.
The holiday gala, entitled “What a Wonderful Night,” drew attendance from a wide variety of fields and backgrounds. Joining in on the festivities were the Somerset County Business Partnership’s new CEO Michael Kerwin, as well as both outgoing Chairperson Donna LoStocco and incoming Chairperson Frank Steinberg (the ELSC is a sponsored initiative of the Business Partnership).
A portion of the proceeds from the event were donated to the American Heart Association. Kelly Maguire, a recent stroke survivor, spoke on behalf of the AHA, to remind us all that heart disease can affect anyone, regardless of age or gender.
Overall, the event was a success, and provided its attendees with the opportunity to not only kick off their celebration of the holidays, but also to network with other Emerging Leaders. “Everyone seemed to have a great time, and we all thought that the venue that Fiddler’s Elbow was able to provide was perfect,” said ELSC Vice-Chair Gillian Deak.
“In a time where everyone is focused on cost-cutting and fiscal conservatism, both professionally and personally, the ELSC was thrilled to have such a great turnout for our holiday gala,” commented ELSC Chairperson Kelly Gabel. “With the generous support of our sponsors, Financial Resources Federal Credit Union and Fiddler’s Elbow, we were able to put together a wonderful evening and terrific closing event to our ELSC year.”
The Emerging Leaders of Somerset County was founded in 2006, with the goal of identifying, engaging, and empowering the principal players of the next generation. More than a "young professionals" group, the ELSC is designed for those of any age who are rising within their professions or community organizations. As a sponsored initiative of the Somerset County Business Partnership, the ELSC holds after-hours social and networking events, monthly breakfast seminars on topics of interest, and other initiatives for its members and guests. Their website is www.emergingleaderssc.org.
Upcoming events will focus on the group’s 2010 theme of “Fun For All Ages,” targeting those of any age, not just under forty. The next breakfast seminar is slated for January 8 at 8:30am at the SCBP conference room, and is entitled “Lessons From the Biggest Loser.” The next evening networking event is scheduled for January 28 at 6:00pm at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Somerset, and is a “Fun and Games Night,” with board games and Wii.
