Emerging Leaders Group Helps Out at Shelter
On Sunday, June 28, the Emerging Leaders of Somerset County held a volunteer event at St. Hubert's Animal Shelter in Branchburg. The group performed a variety of chores, including staining a fence, weeding, and creating new mulch beds in the yard.

This was the first such event for the group, according to chairperson Kelly Gabel, who also attended the event. "We had a beautiful day, got a lot of work done, and had fun. And because we were able to help take care of some of these chores, the staff could focus more of their time to match up the animals into new homes."

In addition to working, the group spent some time visiting with the animals who were awaiting adoption."There were a lot of cats, dogs, and even ferrets there who needed homes. If I didn't already have pets at home, I'd probably have left there with a pair of kittens," said Scott Mihalick, who took a break from staining the fence to visit with two playful kittens.

St. Hubert's is located on Route 22 East in Branchburg. They can be reached at (908) 526-3330 or at www.sthuberts.org.

The Emerging Leaders of Somerset County was founded in 2006, with the goal of identifying, engaging, and empowering the principal players of the next generation. More than a "young professionals" group, the ELSC is designed for those of any age who are rising within their professions or community organizations. A sponsored initiative of the Somerset County Business Partnership, the ELSC holds after-hours social and networking events, monthly breakfast seminars on topics of interest, and other initiatives for its members and guests.
